Erste Bilder 1988-1989
1986 begann ich mein Studium an der Folkwangschule in Essen. Die 1980er-Jahre waren in Europa geprägt von Deindustrialisierung und gleichzeitig stattfindender Privatisierung von gesellschaftlichem Allgemeingut. Der Begriff und der Wert von Arbeit veränderte sich. Diesen gesellschaftlichen Prozess dokumentarisch zu begleiten war das Ziel jener Anfangsjahre meines Studiums. Ich fotografierte mein Lebensumfeld in Duisburg, die Hafenstadt Liverpool sowie Leipzig in der DDR.
Early Pictures 1988-1989
In 1986 I began my studies at the Folkwangschule in Essen. The 1980s in Europe were characterized by deindustrialization and the simultaneous privatization of social common property. The concept and value of work changed. Documenting this social process was the goal of the early years of my studies. I photographed my living environment in Duisburg, the port city of Liverpool and Leipzig in the GDR.
